The following student types represent some of the ways I can specialize your lessons.
Which student are you?
The “I sing for enjoyment” singer
Singing is your favorite pastime, but you wish the high notes were easier to reach, or that your voice didn’t hurt after a long sing. Learn how to sing with confidence and ease by studying vocal technique. Vocal exercises will improve your support, breathing, range and tone. Technique can be applied to any style of music to make you an all-around better vocalist and musician.
The Musical Theatre Lover
You love musical theatre and want to get more roles, or better roles, but the audition process frustrates you. Develop your voice through the study of vocal technique, then apply this study to the perfect musical theatre audition cut. Once your cut has been techniqued, emphasis is placed on interpretation and performance, to showcase your voice and acting skills. Once you’ve gotten that dream role, lesson time can be spent coaching you on your material to prepare you to give a stellar, effortless performance.
The Enthusiastic Chorister
You love choral music and want to audition for all-state chorus or a professional choir, but you struggle with the sight-reading and music theory requirements, or with holding harmonies. Become a better singer and musician by splitting your lesson time between vocal study and music study. (Music theory study is only available in studio).
The Future Professional Performer
Your passion for singing and performing is so great that you’ve decided to make a career out of it. Whether you’re applying for a college music or theatre program or auditioning for a professional theatre - you need to prepare. Establish a firm foundation of vocal technique to sustain your vocal health through the rigors of a professional performance schedule, then learn how to “ice the cake” through acting and interpretation. Make your audition or performance stand out from the crowd by fine-tuning all performance elements. Build your audition book to best represent who you are and what you can do. Add sight-reading or music theory study (optional) to ace your college entrance exam, or improve your hire-ability to a professional theatre.
The Professional Brush-Up
You’ve been working as a “vocal athlete” for a while and haven’t had a lesson in ages. Bring in your voice for a tune-up. Brush up on your technique while working through your rep, so that you can continue to give an effortless performance (and keep singing until you’re 80).
The “OH NO! I don’t fit into one of these categories!” Singer
Fear not! As long as you really want to learn how to sing, I would LOVE to work with you. Do not hesitate to contact me at the email below to discuss your singing goals. There is no question too small or idea too wacky.
Lessons are available online (via ZOOM) to anyone, anywhere. Please check out the “ZOOM!” page for details. Lessons in person, at my studio, are available to those living in the vicinity of Swansea, MA.
